Why notes should belong to a Space
A universal notes app keeps everything in one list. That's fine until you work across three projects a day. The question is always the same: "Was that thought about Client A or Client B?"
With per-Space notes, the Space is the folder. You're on the "Client A" desktop — its notes are yours. You're on "Research" — different notes, same shortcut. No filing, no tags, no searching. The desktop you're on already knows what you're working on.
How Space notes work
Open them in one keystroke
Press ⌃⌥N while in a Space to open its notes. No notes yet? You get a fresh one. You can also use the notes button next to a Space in the SpaceJump menu bar.
Floating windows that stay put
Notes open as small floating windows that belong to their Space. They stay visible while you work, remember where you dragged them, and don't follow you to other desktops.
Dock them with ⌘⇧W
Press ⌘⇧W to dock a note to the screen edge — a clean, always-visible checklist while you work. Undock it back to floating anytime.
Notes and checklists
Every Space can have text notes and checklist notes. Add a new checklist from the notes menu or the quick switcher (⌘T in the picker), check items off as you go, and keep it pinned next to your windows.
When per-Space notes shine
On calls
A customer mentions something mid-call. Jump to their Space, jot it down, jump back. The note is already filed where it belongs.
Research & deep work
Keep a running checklist of sources or todos on the "Research" desktop. It's always visible, never buried in an app.
Study sessions
One Space per subject, one checklist per Space. Close the Space, and tomorrow's session starts exactly where you left off.
Where your notes live
Notes are stored locally in SpaceJump's application support folder on your Mac. There's no cloud sync and nothing is uploaded. They stay on your machine, exactly where you left them.
Frequently asked questions
Do notes follow me between Spaces?
No — that's the point. Each note belongs to the Space it was created in. The floating window stays on that Space while you work there.
Can I have more than one note per Space?
Yes. Create as many notes and checklists per Space as you need. The notes button lists them, and you can open several at once.
Is there a way to hide all notes quickly?
Yes. Press ⌘H inside the Quick Switcher to toggle all notes on and off at once.
